A History of Chinese Mathematics By Jean-Claude Martzloff

A History of Chinese Mathematics By Jean-Claude Martzloff
Publisher: Springer 2006 | 485 Pages | ISBN: 3540337822 | PDF | 19 MB

The book is made up of two mutually explanatory parts, the first devoted to the general, historical and cultural background, and the second to the development of each subdiscipline that together comprise Chinese mathematics. This section is organised topically rather than chronologically, and is enriched in each case by examples, guides on how to intepret the contextual setting and by exhaustive references - both mathematical and sinological. This makes the book uniquely accessible, both as a topical reference work, and also as an overview that can be read and reread at many levels of sophistication by both sinologists and mathematicians alike. Indeed anyone with an interest in Chinese culture or the history of ideas will derive great benefit from this book.

The Stability of Matter in Quantum Mechanics, an e-book

Lieb Elliott H., Seiringer Robert, "The Stability of Matter in Quantum Mechanics"
Cambridge University Press | 2009 | ISBN: 0521191181 | 310 pages | PDF | 1,3 MB

Research into the stability of matter has been one of the most successful chapters in mathematical physics, and is a prime example of how modern mathematics can be applied to problems in physics. A unique account of the subject, this book provides a complete, self-contained description of research on the stability of matter problem. It introduces the necessary quantum mechanics to mathematicians, and aspects of functional analysis to physicists. The topics covered include electrodynamics of classical and quantized fields, Lieb-Thirring and other inequalities in spectral theory, inequalities in electrostatics, stability of large Coulomb systems, gravitational stability of stars, basics of equilibrium statistical mechanics, and the existence of the thermodynamic limit. The book is an up-to-date account for researchers, and its pedagogical style makes it suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematical physics.

Geo-Data: The World Geographical Encyclopedia

Geo-Data: The World Geographical Encyclopedia
Publisher: Gacl | ISBN: 0787655813 | edition 2002 | PDF | 717 pages | 80,5 mb

The first new edition since 1989 of Geo-Data, formerly edited by George Kurian, is a splendid example of what a reference book can be. Its purpose is to provide the reader with the most detailed and comprehensive description available of the physical geography of the countries of the world. It achieves this purpose in an easy-to-use alphabetical arrangement for all of the world's 207 countries and dependencies. Each entry begins with the key facts about that country including longest rivers and highest mountains and other key statistics. All place-names and geographical features such as mountains and lakes have been listed in the most easily recognized versions of their names. Entries adhere to the same basic structure with key facts followed by overall geography and geology; then mountains and hills; inland waterways, coasts and oceans; climate and vegetation; human population; natural resources; and finally further readings. This information is
enhanced by a relief map of the country that is both clear and easy to read. Additional features of the volume include an extensive index plus 19 tables of world rankings and a glossary. The glossary is perhaps the weakest feature, as it could have been more extensive.
